Today, I released Murali 0.2.0, which adds support for exporting animations in a vertical video format.
Murali is an animation engine I am building to create visual explanations of mathematics, artificial intelligence, and other technical ideas. Until now, its output was primarily designed for conventional landscape videos.
With version 0.2.0, Murali animations can also be designed for mobile-first platforms such as YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and LinkedIn.
Why Vertical Video?
Many people now encounter educational content through short-form vertical videos. However, explaining mathematics or AI in this format requires more than cropping a landscape animation.
Equations must remain readable on smaller screens, and visual elements often need to flow vertically instead of spreading across a wide canvas. Murali’s vertical support makes it possible to design animations for these constraints from the beginning.
What Comes Next?
Murali 0.2.0 is a small release, but it opens an important new direction for the project.
I plan to use it to create short visual explanations of the mathematics and systems behind AI.
Murali is still evolving. For now, version 0.2.0 gives its animations a new canvas—and gives me a new way to explain technical ideas visually.
